A Mississippi couple, who set out to gamble Saturday afternoon, covered their vehicle windows before entering a casino. While walking in, the man told security it was to preserve his vehicle, but about an hour later, guards checked it out and made a disturbing find.
James Terrell Dunn, 32, and his girlfriend, Monique Latrice Newton, 33, went to the Island View Casino in Gulfport on Saturday to relax the afternoon away with some gambling, according to WLOX. The couple covered the windows on their car and walked inside, telling security that they wanted to protect the interior of the vehicle from the powerful rays of the sun, but that wasn’t the case at all.
About an hour after the pair went inside, security noticed something odd about their car and went in for a closer look. Come to find out, they didn’t cover their windows to protect the interior from the sun, they had left their two children in the car, and to make matters worse, it was 95 degrees out that day.
The engine of the car wasn’t running, and both the doors and windows were secured, the guard noted. Dunn and Newton were both found inside the casino at a gambling area, where they were both arrested for neglect of their 9-year-old girl and 11-year-old boy.
Both Dunn and Newton were charged with two counts each of felony child abuse, and they were booked into the Harrison County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bonds. However, police said the investigation is ongoing, which could yield more charges.
Hopefully both of these idiots are punished within the fullest extent of the law and their children are placed in homes where they’ll be safe. People wonder what’s wrong within certain communities, but the fact of the matter is that it all starts right at home with the parents. Children, whose parents are like these two, grow up with serious issues. Fix the parenting and you’ll fix the community, but that’s an inconvenient truth that too many people don’t want to address.
