Cop Went To The Least Expected Place After Sneaking Out Of Woman’s Home

A female officer in Georgia didn’t realize she would make the news when she went to a woman’s home and quietly crept back out. Worried family members called the Gainsville police department with their concerns when their worst fears were confirmed by what the officer found, then what she did about it.

Officer Kristen Miller probably assumed she was flying under the radar last week when she went to a vulnerable woman’s home to check on her well-being. Right before showing up to the aging Gainsville woman’s home, the department Kristen worked for got a phone call from the family.

The 92-year-old woman’s relatives were concerned about their loved one, but evidently unable to do anything about it on their own. Kristen went to the unidentified woman’s doorstep and almost instantly found herself in the center of a situation she definitely didn’t expect. She reacted to it in a way others probably would not have, while Cpl. Jessica Van watched it all unfold.

According to a Gainsville Police Department blast on the situation, Kristen found that the elderly resident was in the midst of an unfathomable struggle. She was living in a decrepit home without power or electricity, which had been the case for long enough to make all the food in her refrigerator go warm and spoil. Water service to the home had also been compromised, as the famished victim of poverty and apparent abandonment had not a drop of the life-sustaining resource available to her.

As soon as Kristen realized that this precious citizen in her community had no means of transportation to remedy her dire situation, the officer knew exactly what she needed to do. Van kept the struggling woman company as Kristen got into her patrol vehicle and drove to a nearby grocery store. There, she purchased absolutely all the groceries and water that this woman desperately needed to live another day under these circumstances.

When Kristen returned with fistfuls of grocery bags and big jugs of water, all purchased from her own paycheck, the elderly woman was speechless. Her family was so grateful that their simple call to officers to request a welfare check on their loved one, transpired into a good deed that not a single person saw coming.

But the generous efforts didn’t end with the bags of much-appreciated groceries brought to the 92-year-old. Since the department’s post on the matter went viral, they made a special announcement in the comments on the blast. Gainesville police said they are working to get the woman’s utilities restored, so she can live her days out in dignity, without worrying about where her water and electricity are coming from.

This is not just going above and beyond the call of duty, it’s superseding even those expectations. This officer had the option to take the welfare call, see that the woman was alive upon arrival, and report back to her superiors as well as the woman’s family that she was simply still breathing, but she went above and beyond the call of duty.

Kristen truly wanted to help this person and ease the family’s concerns by paying it forward and stocking her shelves with all she needed to eat and drink. This not only ensured that she wouldn’t have to respond to an inevitable future call for a body check but restored some faith in officers and what their real intentions are.
